Telepathology is defined as performance of pathology at a distance using available telecommunication links. With the advent of latest hardware and software technology in computer and imaging and boom in information technology sector, effective and useful telepathoogy practice is now a reality. Potential of telepathology in health care and medical education is being realized in India as well. We present our experience of telepathology at a tertiary care medical centre over last four years. We conducted regular teleeduation and tele-consultation sessions with three medical colleges of Orissa, India. The outcome was satisfactory in terms of participation, experience and knowledge gains. Key Words: Telepathology, Tele-education, Tele-consultation, Digital images, Store & forward telepathology, Dynamic telepathology.
ANTIBIOTIC MICs The MICs were determined for the 11 antibiotics that were given to the patients rifampin, rifabutin, ethambutol, amikacin, doxycycline, minocycline, clarithromycin, and fluoroquinolones [including ofloxacin, levofloxacin, ciprofloxacin, and sparfloxacin] ; against all the strains isolated from the 63 patients but 2 because of insufficient growth ; . For each antibiotic, the MICs were distributed in a narrow range, and the modal MIC was close to the 50% MIC and to the geometric mean MIC Table 4 ; . The MICs of rifampin and rifabutin were lower than the MICs of the other antibiotics 90% MIC of 0.5 and 0.06 g mL, respectively ; . The MICs of the cyclines, clarithromycin. Treatment instead of jail for marijuana-related offenses. Admissions involving the use of marijuana as either a primary or secondary drug increased among both criminal justice and other referral sources from 1993 to 1995 Figure 2 ; . Sis, but multivariate analysis identified only cough and shortness of breath as the statistically significant symptoms associated with tuberculosis. Therefore, no specific clues to the diagnosis of tuberculosis seem to arise from the analysis of symptoms. We established a risk classification based on an assumption of the predominant immunodeficiency, according to the underlying disease and its treatment. Patients classified in the high-risk group had a threefold greater risk of developing tuberculosis as shown by multivariate analysis. The other risk factors identified were the use of fludarabine, corticosteroids and malnutrition limited due to the small number of patients with this characteristic ; , all factors associated with significant impairment in T-cell immunity. There was no association between tuberculosis and HSCT in our study. This may be due to the fact that the large majority of HSCT in the present study were autologous there were only 6 allogeneic HSCT ; . In a large study of more than 8, 000 HSCT, the risk of tuberculosis after autologous HSCT was not different from that in the general population, whereas allogeneic HSCT recipients were at a greater risk 2.95 times, compared to the general population ; .23 As more allogeneic transplants have been performed in our institution since 2000, we suppose that there will be a larger number of cases of tuberculosis in the future. In the present study, the mortality associated with tuberculosis was very high, despite the fact that most patients 22 of 24 ; received appropriate therapy. This is in contrast with the 23 percent observed in a series of 30 cases in patients with cancer.21 However, it is possible that our patients were more immunosuppressed: all patients in our study had a hematologic malignancy, compared to 63 percent in the other study, and only four patients 13% ; in the other study had received corticosteroids all died ; , compared to 79 percent in our study. The high mortality rate observed may be a consequence of a combination of severe immunosuppression and possible delay in the diagnosis. The most important limitation of this study is its retrospective nature, with the possibility that some data might have missed in the process of reviewing the clinical records. In addition, considering the difficulty in making the diagnosis of tuberculosis, we cannot rule out the possibility that some controls had tuberculosis, especially those who died with an undiagnosed infection. In addition, some potentially important data such as a history of tuberculosis prior to the diagnosis of the hematologic disease ; could not be analyzed because this information was not available for a large proportion of patients. However, despite these limitations, our study may have some implications. Tuberculosis is a relevant health prob. A recent study in clinical infectious diseases documented the rates of glucose homeostasis abnormality gha ; adverse event reports aers ; of gatifloxacin as compared to fellow quinolones levofloxacin, ciprofloxacin and moxifloxacin and macrodantin.

Deprived of their liberty, for civil commitment purposes, only if they present enough risk of enough harm sufficiently soon in the future to justify a deprivation of liberty. A mere assessment of risk of any violence, without regard to potential seriousness or immediacy, should never be enough; and mental health professionals should be on guard against allowing or enabling their risk assessments to mean more to legal decisionmakers than is justified by the data whether clinical or actuarial ; . On the other hand, an important finding of this study not commented upon by the authors is that, amongst hospitalized individuals, low risk patients, in terms of their dangerousness to others, can be identified very well: Of the 343 patients in the lowest identified risk class of a total of 939 ; , only 1% were violent, to others, at follow up perhaps unsurprisingly given the incidence of primarily depressed patients in this sample and the second lowest risk class, composed of 248 patients, also exhibited much less post-hospital violence than the sample as a whole. Thus, it is to be hoped that the results of the MacArthur Study of Mental Disorder and Violence can and will be used to avoid mistakenly characterizing mentally disordered individuals as dangerous to others as well as to help identify, and treat, those civilly hospitalized individuals who do pose an especially high risk of violence.

A large percentage of residents in survey after survey report experiencing significant problems with their significant others.[359] Fifty-five percent of married residents in one study, for example, felt that they did not have enough time and energy to "work on" the marriage.[360] Many residents expressed concern that their relationships would not persist through training.[361] Says one resident, "I gave up everything. - friends, happiness, and one marriage." From M. D. Doctors Talk about Themselves: Quite as important, though less easy to measure, is the common tragedy of 'marital dry-rot.' By this I mean the marriage that has atrophied in terms of emotional closeness, intimacy and enriched sharing. As with dry-rotted timber, the outward form may remain, but the underlying strength and substance has eroded - collapse or crumbling is only a matter of time.[362] Author-doc Robin Cook describes being an intern: There is a[n] intensity in. repressed anger and hostility that leads towards greater isolation, more autistic behavior, stronger feelings of self-pity, and an inability to establish significant interpersonal relationships. Our family, friends, and loved ones found us tired, preoccupied, unavailable. It took us days to return phone calls. The pharmaceutical industry contributes financial aid, medicine and expertise to the world's leading government and humanitarian organizations to help relieve suffering and improve public health in the developing world. A selected list of our partners includes. KEY WORDS fluoroquinolones; phototoxic dermatitis; comet assay ABSTRACT AIM: To compare two methods of measuring DNA damage induced by photogenotoxicity of fluoroquinolones FQ ; . METHODS: Lomefloxacin LFLX ; , sparfloxacin SPFX ; , ciprofloxacin CPFX ; , and levofloxacin LELX ; were tested by comet assay and photodynamic DNA strand breaking activity under the different conditions of UVA irradiation. RESULTS: In comet assay, photogenotoxicity was evident at SPFX 1 mg L, LFLX 5 mg L, and CPFX 5 mg L, and LELX 10 mg L. In photodynamic DNA srand-breaking activity, SPFX and LFLX induced the conversion of the supercoiled form into the nicked relaxed form at 10-50 mol L, while CPFX at 25 mol L and LELX at 50 mol L. CONCLUSION: There were good correlations between the two methods to detect DNA damage induced by phototoxicity of fluoroquinolones. Photodynamic DNA strand breaking activity was a good method to detect DNA damage induced by photogenotoxicity of fluoroquinolones as well as comet assay.
